UR BLOGGER STYLE: Eva Volpi of Eva Redson

Clear style voice…

Strappy sandals are a must in my wardrobe and they can be paired with anything, even with a bold metallic look.

UR:  How do you define personal style?

EV:  To me personal style is the expression of our own aesthetic sense, mixed with the wish of enhancing our bodies’ best qualities while expressing our personality.

“My motto is to be comfortable while also being stylish, so I try to wear some basic pieces paired with some staple trendy items.”

-Eva Volpi

UR:  When did you decide to create your personal style?

EV:  Well, even if my personal style has its permanent traits it also has always been in constant evolution. I love to experiment with new trends, colors, shapes and styles, because I think that fashion is all about discovering new ways of expression. With that being said, a major change in my style-sense happened around three years ago when I slowly decreased the amount of intricate patterns and bright colors in my wardrobe, and started incorporating minimal / Scandi-chic pieces into my daily looks.

UR:  How would you best describe your personal style?

EV:  I’m Italian so Italian fashion sense plays a big role in my personal style, but I also adore Parisian girls street style and Scandinavian sleek lines, so I usually mix these fashion ingredients together according to my daily mood.

My winter closet’s color pattern is all about black, white, grey shades, baby pink, mauve and a little pop of red and burgundy.  For spring and summer season white is the main color I wear, paired with some ocean blue shades, pink tones and again a little pop of vibrant red.

UR:  Who are some of your favorite fashion designers and why?

EV:  Valentino’s designer Pierpaolo Piccioli, Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri and Céline’s designer Phoebe Philo are for sure my favourite designers, because in their unique way are able to mix girly style with sophisticate volumes and sleek lines inspired by menswear.

French fashion is always a big inspiration and in Summer I like to create some Saint Tropez
inspired looks, like this one based on breezy volumes and a stripy pattern.

UR:   What designers inspire your style the most and how?

EV:  Besides the ones I already mentioned, I can say that Italian designer Giambattista Valli and French influencer and designer Jeanne Damas are a huge inspiration for me, and I always try to reinterpret their style in my own way and add their aesthetic into my looks.

UR:  What are your favorite shoes?

EV:  My favourite shoes are black leather strappy sandals, because they are so chic and versatile. You can pretty much wear them with anything, from some casual blue jeans to a party dress.

I love to pair a minimal oversized grey sweater dress with some fun accessories like gold artsy
earrings and a statement bag.

UR:  What do you like to wear on a daily basis? Why?

EV:  My motto is to be comfortable while also being stylish, so I try to wear some basic pieces paired with some staple trendy items. For example, during these winter days, I really enjoy sporting my menswear inspired COS black coat with a cosy pullover tucked in some black skinny jeans. To spice the outfit up I like playing with accessories, adding statement jewellery pieces or some ankle boots with a fun print like the animalier one.

UR:  What do you reach for when it’s time to go out for an evening on the town?

EV:  Dresses are my element. I love the fact that dresses themselves create the entire look, so I can focus on having fun matching the right accessories to create a playful yet stylish look.

In order to create a balanced outfit, I choose the dress according to its characteristics, this means that if the dress I chose is a staple piece itself, I use it as the main focus of the look, opting for basic accessories. Instead, if the dress is quite basic, I love to mix bold jewellery pieces and playful bag and shoes.

My Italian roots always show off when it’s summertime! I love to embrace Mediterranean vibes,
styling denim with cool patterns such as stripes and nice materials like straw.

UR:  How do blue jeans and denim work into your wardrobe?

EV:  I have various jeans in my wardrobe, each single one with a different style.
My favourite pair is, of course, black skinny jeans! But I also have many more pairs that I like wearing, such as black fringed denim, light blue mom jeans and deep blue high waisted skinny jeans.

For example, one of my go-to looks for spring and fall season is blue jeans styled
with an oversized blazer and a t-shirt with a fun print.

UR:  When reaching for outerwear, what is your favorite coat to wear for winter?
Spring? Summer?

EV:  I have no hesitation, my favourite coat is faux fur. I have plenty of faux furs in my closet, from my black one to my oversized white one, cropped ecologic fur with embellishments and my lovely pink teddy coat.

Faux furs perfectly match my motto “comfortable but stylish” because they keep you warm while staying chic.

For warmer months, I really like rocking a good old light-wash denim jacket or a nice and sleek oversized blazer.

Black and white outfit with a pop of red, also featuring my cosy and warm faux fur coat.

UR:  Let’s talk handbags. On a regular day, what size handbag do you like and why?
What is your current favorite handbag? Why this bag?

EV:  Before my style change of three years ago, I loved wearing super oversized bags and I had the habit of carrying around lots of stuff. But now, I really prefer medium to small bags, and I learnt to pick carefully what to bring with me and what not, according to the day necessity.

I actually don’t have a current favorite handbag, but at the moment I use a lot my
Mango pink cross body bag that has a cute round shape and also my geometrical
silver cross body bag.

UR:  Accessories. When it comes to jewelry, what works best for you? The more the
better? Or, is less good? Do you prefer gold, silver, rose gold?

EV:  Accessories are my obsession, I really truly love them. As said before, I like to create balanced outfits so I use minimal or bold jewellery depending on the look I’m creating.

Talking about jewellery types, I’m a “sun girl” and this means that gold goes better with my skin tone, but as said I’m very passionate at accessories so I wear also silver and rose gold.

UR:  Who is your favorite style icon of all time?
EV:  This is a tough question! I don’t have just one specific style icon, I draw inspiration from everything that I like, it could be a designer, a blogger, an artist, a random girl walking in the street… everything that makes me stop for a second and truly catches my eye, it’s my style icon of the moment.

#ULTRAVIOLET FOOD: Berry Delicious ‘Ice-Cream’ with Macadamia Crunch

We all scream for #ultraviolet ice cream!!!

INGREDIENTS

2 bananas, frozen
1/2 cup blueberries, frozen
1/4 cup macadamia nuts, roughly chopped
1 heaped tablespoon maqui berry *

INSTRUCTIONS

Throw the bananas, berries and maqui berry powder into your food processor or blender. Whizz it up to a smooth, ‘soft serve’ consistency, but be careful not to over process as the ‘ice cream’ may start to melt. You may need to stop and start and push the banana back down onto the blades but persist, you will get there! When it’s just done, throw in your macadamias and combine very quickly, but only so that they spread through the ice cream – you want the crunch so don’t keep blending.

2018 February Freeze-In

Sometimes All You Need…

Days frozen in at home are generally no cause for celebration.  Today’s freeze-in is a bit different.  When you’re frozen in, you’re alert to skin care needs.  This in turn forces you to take time to connect with a solution you know will take your skin back to it’s performance best.  While actually taking time to look up around me in the studio, three products stood out above all others:  Facial Clay Mask of AVOCADO & OATMEAL from FREEMAN, Realive Serum from AEOS, and Enriching Moisturizer from AEOS.

Unexpected and certainly welcomed.

I wasn’t looking to pamper myself, it just kind of happened.  While turning off today’s jazz picks, this product with a brilliant green hue jumped out at me.  Of course shortly there after, the after-dinner-mint-green contents ended up slathered all over my face.  Within 5 minutes my entire face felt as though it had been pulled into place.  After 10 minutes, everything was removed with a cold water massage and towel blotted dry.

Serum savvy.

I did not want a heavy moisturizer on my skin, just something light enough to make a difference.  Where to go…where to go…AEOS stood out.  Ah, here we go…Realive Serum to the rescue.  The serum was placed into the palm of my left hand then gently pressed all over my face and neck…and then into the backs of my hands.  Instant quenching…my skin looked alive and blissfully drank in the serum.

Enter layer number three.

A visit to the window affirmed that all the rain from this morning’s shower storm was frozen.  While my skin felt like it was performing to perfection, I became concerned about how it would perform in an hour…two hours…three hours…and throughout the evening.  another visit to my AEOS collection and I connected with a rich moisturizer…Enriching Moisturizer.  Massaged into my skin atop the serum revealed a wonderful scent of citrus, lemon and sweet orange to be exact.

Ahhhh…balmy and beautiful finish.

There is a reason why people layer their skin care…and the first reason has to be to make their skin feel balmy and healthy fresh.  Surprisingly, there is no separation of products on my skin.  The elements have aligned and are working well together.  My skin is ready for to be balanced and protected through the 2018 February freeze-out…now time to make some super chai tea with coconut milk…

Sometimes All You Need Is a Great Serum and a Little Bit of Time…

RUNWAY BRILLIANCE: Jenny Packham FW 2018

“MOON DUST IN YOUR LUNGS, STARS IN YOUR EYES, YOU ARE A CHILD OF THE COSMOS. AND RULER OF THE SKIES.”

Inspired by the Cosmos…

The AW18 Collection is inspired by the Cosmos: the scale of the stars, far off galaxies and the themes of the cult sci-fi film, Blade Runner

Images of space formed the conception of the colour palette. Black punctuates a collection exploding with colour; Neptune inspired the lunar hues and dusk the comic blue whilst the atomic red represents the blazing nebular of Sagittarius. Fully beaded gowns are inspired by star-filled slies – meteor showers of sequins, star bursts in crystals twinkling cresent moons on weightless tulle cascades of molten lava embellishments.

Evocative of the spirit of Ridley Scott’s femme fatale…

…silhouttes are bold and glamourous; tailored crepes and statement shoulders are juxtaposed with dramatic skirts of iridescent ‘liquid’ organza, sumptuous draped velvet and versatile seperates, a contemporary interpretation of the nuanced character of Blade Runner’s Rachael.

Ridley Scott accredited the visual style of the movie as influenced by the drawings of futurist Italian architect Antonio Sant’Elia, who conceived futuristic cities: the set of the Jenny Packham AW18 campaign is a minimalist imagining of one of his cities in the sky.
